Verified 03 June 2026 - Entreprendre Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

If he becomes a parent, a self-employed may benefit from supplementary birth leave (CSN), in addition to maternity, paternity and childcare leave or adoption leave. During this leave, which can be taken from 1er in july 2026, the self-employed can receive additional daily birth allowances. We present you the rules and the method of calculating the amount of compensation for this leave.

When a child is born or adopted, self-employed are entitled to leave: maternity leave, paternity or childcare leave, adoption leave.

During such leave, self-employed persons shall receive, subject to conditions:

  • A lump sum maternity rest allowance
  • A fixed daily allowance.

In addition, a new leave is open to each parent, for a maximum duration of 2 months, which can be divided into 2 periods of one month. This additional leave, on the occasion of the birth or arrival at home of a child, constitutes a new, optional right, which may be taken from 1er July 2026.

Additional birth leave is available to parents of a child, born or adopted since 1er January 2026, who decide to cease their activity (or not to resume it after maternity, paternity or adoption leave).

The self-employed may benefit from it and receive, during that leave, additional daily allowances.

The following are thus concerned:

FYI

To benefit from this leave, self-employed workers must be affiliated to social security since at least 6 months on the start date of the additional leave.

Supplementary birth leave is open from 1er July 2026.

FYI

It concerns parents of children born or adopted from 1er January 2026 or whose date of birth was planned from that date but who were born prematurely.

This additional leave may be taken immediately after existing leave (maternity, paternity, adoption) or within 9 months of birth or adoption.

In practice:

  • For children born between 1er january and june 30, 2026, leave can be taken following maternity, paternity or adoption leave, or later, up to 9 months from 1er July 2026 (until March 31, 2027).
  • For children born from 1er in july 2026, leave can be taken within 9 months of the child's birth or arrival at home, in the event of adoption.

This period of 9 months may be extended in certain specific cases (if maternity leave is longer due to multiple births or in the case of hospitalization of the child, for example).

Please note

The leave can be taken by both parents at the same time, or one after the other.

The calculation basis of the compensation is the maximum daily allowance paid during maternity leave, paternity leave or adoption leave, with the application of abatement.

This amount is equal to €65.84.

During his supplementary birth leave, the self-employed worker shall receive:

  • 70% of his daily allowances the first month additional birth leave, or €46.09 gross per day.
  • 60% the second month, or €39.50 gross per day.

If the amount of its RAAM: titleContent of the last 3 years is less than €4,582.00, the self-employed person shall receive a lower daily allowance, but of the same amount in the first and second months (6.58 gross (10% of 1/730 of €48,060)).

Please note

When replaced by an employee for the tasks he normally performs, the collaborating spouse receives a replacement allowance during his additional birth leave.

The self-employed worker can submit his/her claim for compensation related to the additional birth leave via the platform demarche.numérique.gouv.fr.

A dedicated online service will be available on 1er July 2026.

FYI

The request can be submitted until the day before the start of the leave.

It shall specify the following:

  • Social security number of the applicant
  • Birth certificate extract
  • Surname, first name and date of birth of the child
  • Professional situation
  • Period of taking leave
  • Date of last day worked and certificate of temporary suspension of professional activity, during the period of leave.
