Taxis: what are the prices and the display and commercial obligations?

Taxi fares, their communication to the customer and the setting of the taximeter are regulated. In addition to this, there are mark-ups and supplements. For some airports, the amount is fixed. One invoice must be given to the customer.
Number of seating places
The professional vehicle must include 9 seats maximum (driver included).
Mandatory devices in the vehicle
The taxi vehicle shall contain all of the following:
- Rectangle with lighting on the roof. The mention "taxi" must be included. The name of the municipality where you practice must be entered. It lights up in green when the taxi is free, in red when it is busy.
- Taximeter called counter which measures the time of the race and the number of kilometers traveled
- Smartphone with an internet connection and application driver approved by the taxi.
- Terminal electronic payment system (bank card terminal)
- Printer connected to the counter to give a note of the race to the customer
- Plate attached to the vehicle and visible from the outside indicating the license number, i.e. the number of theparking authorization (ADS) and the department or departments where the driver is authorized to practice.
The taximeter illuminated (or time meter) is a device that records the course and indicates the price list practiced and the amount payable.
The taximeter must be visible to customers.
In addition, a lighting device must be attached to the roof of the vehicle.
This device must bear the mentionTaxi and indicate the municipality of attachment of the vehicle.
If the taxi is free, the light must be green, visible day and night. If it's busy, it should be lit in red.
Please note
the taximeter and the roof lighting system shall be systematically checked during the annual technical inspection of the vehicle.
The marauding electronic is mandatory since December 2021.
The taxi driver must sign in the taxi availability register, called: the taxi..
This is a database where all available taxis are listed in a perimeter.
The driver chooses the perimeter.
It can range from 150 meters minimum to 500 meters maximum.
It must meet the demand for racing in a time limit of 30 seconds.

Taxi fare includes capped fares and surcharges in some cases.
Airport packages apply in some cities.
FYI
the new tariffs come into effect on the 1ster February of each year, but the driver has until 1er May to apply them. If a change occurs at another time, the taxi has a 2 months to apply the new tariff.
Capped rates
The minimum fare for a ride is €8 for all taxis (Parisian and non-Parisian).
The price of a taxi ride includes 3 elements:
- €4.48 maximum for customer support
- €1.29 maximum per kilometer traveled
- €41.76 maximum for the price of the hour in case of waiting of the customer or if the customer has difficulties to move

The price can be rounded up to the next euro cent.
Increases and supplements
The price per kilometer traveled is increased in the following cases:
- Night race (within the limit of 50%)
- Race that requires a return to empty (without customer) or that serves a peripheral or external area to the parking authorization area (within the limit of 100%)
- Race on snowy or icy roads (up to 50%) if special equipment or snow tires are used
- Rush hour race
The surcharges night race and snowy or icy road race are not cumulative.
No extra charge, no surcharge may be applied to the passenger in the following situations:
- Support in a station, one port or a airport
- Wheelchair of a person with a disability

‘Toulousain taxis’, ‘taxis lyonnais’, ‘taxis niçois’, ‘taxis antibois’, ‘taxis cannois’ means:
- ‘taxis lyonnais’: taxis for which the geographical scope of the parking authorization includes the municipalities of the single pickup area (ZUPC) of the Lyon agglomeration and Saint-Exupéry airport, defined by prefectural decree
- ‘taxis niçois’: taxis for which the geographical scope of the parking authorization includes the municipality of Nice
- ‘Cannes taxis’ means taxis for which the geographical area of parking authorization includes the municipality of Cannes
- ‘antibois taxis’: taxis for which the geographical scope of the parking authorization includes the municipality of Antibes
- ‘Toulouse taxis’: taxis for which the geographical scope of the parking authorization includes the municipality of Toulouse and Toulouse Blagnac airport

‘Parisian taxis’ and ‘taxis d’Orly’ shall mean:
- ‘taxis d’Orly’: taxis with a specific parking permit at Orly airport
- ‘Parisian taxis’ means taxis for which the geographical scope of the parking authorization includes the municipality of Paris
Guadeloupe
Airport and Grand Port
For a trip to the Pôle Caraïbes airport (in 2 directions) and the Grand Port maritime de la Guadeloupe (in 2 directions), an additional charge of €4 applies per passenger from 5.

It is forbidden to ask for a supplement for the wheelchair a passenger with a disability.
“Guadeloupean taxis” means taxis authorized by prefectural decree to park at the airport of Pôle Caraïbes and at the major seaport and to take care of customers there.
Pointe-à-Pitre
For a trip to Bergevin ferry terminal (in both directions), an additional charge of €4 applies per passenger from 5.

“Pointe-à-Pitre taxis” means taxis with a parking authorization in the municipality of Pointe-à-Pitre allowing pick-up at the Bergevin ferry terminal.
Airport Packages
Airport packages apply to Paris, Nice, Antibes, Cannes and Toulouse.
Airport, ferry terminal and port packages apply in Guadeloupe.

Medical race
So-called taxis contracted carry out the seated transport of sick or medicalized persons.
They must sign an agreement with the Cnam: titleContent.
This agreement defines the rates for this type of race.
Warning
From 1er October 2025, the contracted taxi company undertakes to comply with the fares and pricing rules set by the new framework convention.
The amount of the ride is known at the end of the ride.
It must be displayed on the taximeter dial in a manner that is legible to the passenger.
Every year, before 1er MayHowever, the taxi driver must update his taximeter to incorporate the new fares of the year.
FYI
The letter E of color blue must be put on the taximeter dial, from the driver's update of the year's fares.
One viewing must be planned in the vehicle to inform rates following:
- Hourly and kilometer rate
- Amount of support
- Amount and conditions of supplements
- Amount and conditions of packages, if applicable
- Conditions under which the issue of a note is mandatory or optional
- Information according to which the customer can request that the note mention his name, as well as the places of departure and arrival of the race
- Information according to which the customer can pay for the trip by credit card
- Claim Address
A note (invoice) must be given to the customer as soon as the amount of the ride reaches €25 all taxes included (VAT included).
This note must contain certain elements:
- Date
- Start and end times
- Name of the provider or company name of the business
- Vehicle registration number
- Address to send a possible complaint
- Price of the race incl. VAT excluding supplements
- Total amount to be paid including VAT supplements included
- Each of the surcharges or supplements charged
- Customer name (if requested)
- Starting and finishing places of the race (at the customer's request)
The driver must keep double the note for 2 years.
Please note
If the taxi that offered a shared transport for a medical race The patient must indicate that he/she has been refused on the invoice or on the transport document. The patient must then pay directly for the taxi without any advance fee.
Below €25 TTC, the note is optional. However, the customer can request it.
The customer can pay in cash or by credit card regardless of the amount.
The driver can only refuse payment by check, provided that this is indicated on the outside window of the vehicle.
The tip left by the customer is strictly optional.
The vehicle must be equipped with 2 devices:
- Electronic payment terminal in working order
- Printer, connected to the taximeter, allowing automated editing of the note informing the customer of the total price to be paid
Warning
In the case of a medical race where the insured refuses the shared transportHowever, the driver must then pay directly for the taxi. It does not benefit from an advance fee waiver.
