Verification of employees' driving licenses: a new fee structure as of 1 April

Are you an employer of public road passenger or freight transport? You can find out the validity of the driver's license of the people you employ as drivers through the portal Check Permit. As of April 2026, the pricing model for this portal is evolving.

This platform, created by the Ministry of the Interior, aims to reduce the number of road accidents involving a heavy vehicle or a vehicle driven as part of a freight or passenger transport mission.

As a reminder, the employer may at any time ask the salaried driver to justify that he still holds his driving license.

It is also possible to provide in a clause of the employment contract and/or in the

  • periodic verification of the driving license;
  • the obligation to inform the employer immediately of any suspension or withdrawal of the driving license.

Please note

The employer cannot know the information relating to the number of points held by the employed driver.

How to request a consultation?

In order to receive the desired information regarding the validity of the driver's employee's license via the platform Check Permit, you must follow these steps:

  1. create an account;
  2. register your company, as a legal representative or agent;
  3. subscribe to a subscription allowing an unlimited number of visits to the national driving license register (40 euros) HT: titleContent per year), regardless of the size of your company;
  4. add company drivers;
  5. request driver verification.

Please note

Until 1er April 2026, date of the change in pricing, you can still buy a token of 0.95 euro HT that allows you to perform a unit consultation.

Properties of the Verify Permit portal

The portal Check Permit allows the employer to receive a verification certificate reliable and secure driver's license. This includes:

  • theidentity of the holder the driving license;
  • the license number driving;
  • thevalidity status driver's license: valid, invalid or suspended;
  • the category the permit;
  • where applicable, restrictive conditions (e.g. the requirement to wear glasses to drive);
  • the date and time of issue of the attestation.

The data for the certificate comes from the National Driver's License System (NDLS). The information provided concerns only French driving licenses. They cannot be used outside the professional setting.

The certificate shall take the following form:

The employer must inform the employee, by any means, of his right to obtain a certificate of cancelation at the end of his contract. This certificate will prevent any future consultation of his driving license by his previous employer.
